Bring a gentle, handcrafted touch of nature into your home with this handmade ceramic butterfly ornament, carefully shaped and illustrated by hand in my studio.
Inspired by Scandinavian folk art and botanical motifs, this butterfly is made from rustic terracotta clay and finished with a soft white slip on the front. The wings are painted in layered tones of chartreuse, moss green, soft mint and deep blue, with expressive black sgraffito linework that gives the piece movement and a slightly storybook feel.
The upper wings feature organic oval detailing in green and blue, while the lower wings flow into elongated painterly sections of green and blue layered over yellow. A fresh green body sits at the centre, creating a soft focal point. Around the edges, subtle blue textural accents add depth and character.
Finished with a sheer pale blue ribbon, it hangs beautifully in a window, on a peg rail, from a wall hook, or styled on a seasonal branch.
The back remains natural terracotta — warm, earthy and honest — and is stamped with the Fabode mark as a quiet signature of handmade craftsmanship.
Each butterfly is made individually. No two will ever be exactly the same. Subtle brush textures, tonal variations and small irregularities are part of its charm and reflect the beauty of slow, handmade ceramics.

How It’s Made
Each butterfly is shaped by hand from terracotta clay. Once leather-hard, a layer of white slip is brushed onto the front. The design is carefully etched and painted by hand in layered glazes. After drying, the ornament is kiln fired, glazed with a transparent glaze, and fired again at 1240°C for durability while preserving the warmth and texture of the clay.
This is slow, small-batch ceramic work — made entirely by hand.
