A set of six small ceramic fridge magnets — a green-and-orange butterfly, two sunny-yellow flowers, and three little blooms in soft orange and white — hand-built in our Scottish studio.
The making: Each shape is cut by hand from white clay and bisque-fired in the kiln. The butterfly is hand-painted with soft green and orange underglaze on the wings; the larger flowers in a warm sunny yellow with darker centres; the tiny flowers in pale orange and chalk-white. A clear glaze brings everything to a soft gloss through the second firing. A small magnet is glued to the back of each.
How it looks: A 7 cm butterfly leading the group, with two 6 cm yellow flowers either side and three 1.5 cm blooms scattered between. The palette reads as a summer-meadow corner of the kitchen — sunny rather than busy. Glossy finish, slightly raised painted detail you can feel under your thumbnail.
Use it for:
- Held against the fridge as a small painted garden
- Splitting up between two kitchens as a shared family gift
- Holding artwork from grandchildren on a magnetic noticeboard
- A Valentine’s gift for a partner who prefers flowers that last
- Brought out each summer to mark the change of season
A considered gift for a gardener, a Valentine’s recipient, or anyone who loves yellow as a colour — birthdays, housewarmings, or simply because.
Care: Wipe clean with a damp cloth. Avoid soaking.
