A large handmade ceramic vase, hand-built coil-by-coil in light brown clay and finished in a deep turquoise glaze — made by hand in our Scottish studio.
The making: Each vase is hand-built using the traditional coiling technique — thin coils of light brown stoneware clay rolled out and laid one on top of the other, then smoothed by hand from the inside while the outside texture is left visible. The piece is bisque-fired first, then hand-glazed in turquoise that breaks clear over the raised coils, before a final high-temperature firing. The base is stamped with our maker’s mark.
How it looks: A deep, oceanic turquoise that pools darker where the glaze settles between the coils, and breaks to a soft warm tan along the raised ridges where the light brown clay shows through. The shape is a generous irregular cylinder at the base tapering to a smaller round neck — each coil ring visible like a hand-thrown texture.
Use it for:
- Holding a fresh bouquet of garden flowers on a dining table
- A single statement piece on a hallway console
- Displaying dried grasses or eucalyptus by a window
- A considered wedding or housewarming gift
- Anchoring a corner shelf with one large handmade object
A considered gift for someone moving into a new home, marking a milestone, or who collects handmade ceramics — weddings, housewarmings, or simply because.
Care: Fully glazed inside and out and watertight for fresh flowers. Hand wash with mild soap; avoid soaking the glazed maker’s mark for long periods.
Size:
- Height: 21 cm
- Width: 15 cm
- Handmade — small variations in coil texture and glaze are part of the character
