A small slab-built ceramic bud vase in soft sea-blue and green, hand-decorated with an etched flower and leaf, made by hand in our Scottish studio.
The making: Hand-built from grey clay rolled and cut as slabs rather than thrown on a wheel — the flat profile is intentional. A small handle is pressed into the side while the clay is still soft. The leaf-and-flower decoration is scratched directly into the surface (sgraffito) before underglaze paint is brushed on, then the whole piece is dipped in a transparent glaze and kiln-fired to seal the inside watertight.
How it looks: Pale sea-green and soft blue underglaze move across the front and back, with raw grey clay still visible at the edges where the brush stops. The etched flower sits on the front like a folk-art doodle. The glaze finish is smooth and slightly glossy; the texture beneath the glaze keeps the flatness from feeling cold.
Use it for:
- Holding a single stem — a tulip, a sweet pea, a sprig from the garden
- Sitting on a shelf or windowsill as a small piece of sculpture even when empty
- Bedside table beside a stack of books
- A coastal-feeling accent for a bathroom shelf with dried grasses
- Gifted to someone who collects small ceramics
A considered gift for someone setting up a first flat, a coastal-cottage friend, or anyone who buys flowers for themselves — housewarmings, birthdays, or simply because.
Care: Hand wash recommended — avoid soaking or dishwasher.
Size:
- Mini slab vase — dimensions available on request
- Handmade — small variations are part of the character
