A set of six small turquoise-grey heart-shaped ceramic magnets in a matte stone-blue glaze, hand-built in our Scottish studio.
The making: Each heart is cut by hand from grey clay using a small heart-shaped tool, then dried slowly and bisque-fired in the kiln. A matte turquoise glaze is brushed on — the glaze settles into the natural variations of the clay, so colour depth differs slightly heart to heart. After the second firing, a small neodymium magnet is glued securely to the back.
How it looks: Six tiny hearts around 2.5 cm square in a soft stone-turquoise that reads as old-pottery blue rather than seaside bright. The finish is satin-matte; the grey clay shows just at the chipped-feeling edges. Quiet and grown-up rather than sweet, which is the point.
