A large handmade ceramic bowl in the shape of a butterbur leaf, finished in bronze with autumn edges — made from grey clay in our Scottish workshop.

The making: The clay is rolled out flat and pressed against a large butterbur plant leaf gathered from a local park, so the veins of the real leaf print directly into the surface. The shape is cut around the leaf outline, then bent into a bowl form by hand. The edges are left irregular, so the bowl reads as a fallen leaf rather than a perfectly turned vessel. Glazed inside and out, then fired.

How it looks: A deep bronze glaze across the inside and outside catches the light like polished metal, with the leaf veins clearly visible in the surface. The leaf edges shift through pale moss green into dark cranberry red — the colours of a leaf the day it falls.

Use it for:

  • A fruit bowl on a wooden kitchen table
  • A statement centrepiece on a dining table
  • Filled with potpourri or pinecones through autumn and winter
  • Holding a folded throw or scarves in a hallway
  • Gifted to someone moving into a home that needs one strong handmade focal piece

A considered gift for the person who notices the seasons — a milestone birthday, a significant housewarming, or simply because.

Care: Hand wash; avoid soaking. Lift from beneath to support the irregular edges.

Size:

  • Dimensions available on request — a large statement bowl
  • Handmade — each piece is shaped from a real leaf, so no two are identical
