A tall hand-coiled terracotta vase in a golden-brown glaze fading into soft grey-white — a statement piece made by hand in our Scottish studio. 28 cm tall.
The making: Built up entirely by hand using the coiling technique — long ropes of rustic terracotta clay laid one on top of another and smoothed together over several sessions. The coil texture is left visible across the body rather than scraped smooth. A golden-brown glaze is brushed across the top half and allowed to bleed down into a grey-white at the lower section. Fired at 1240°C for full stoneware strength, with the interior also glazed so it holds water.
How it looks: A 28 cm tall vase with the warm honey-gold glaze pooling at the rim and shoulders, fading to a soft, almost driftwood-grey toward the base. The coil ridges catch the light all the way down. The overall feeling is something between an autumnal field and an old stone wall — warm at the top, cool at the foot, neither rustic nor modern but somewhere between.
Use it for:
- Holding a tall stem arrangement — eucalyptus, willow, autumn branches
- A dried-flower piece left out year-round (honesty, pampas, dried roses)
- Sat on the floor in a corner as a sculptural ground-piece
- A statement on a sideboard or open shelf as the room’s quiet anchor
- A significant-birthday or wedding gift to mark the moment
A considered gift for a collector of handmade pottery, a couple settling a long-term home, or someone marking a milestone year — weddings, milestone birthdays, retirements or simply because.
Care: Hand wash only. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasives. Empty water and dry the interior between uses.
Size:
- Height approximately 28 cm
- Handmade — small variations are part of the character
