Wool Felted Fruit Garland

A handmade wool felted garland of small apples, pears, and coloured balls strung on cotton thread, made by hand by Fabode’s mother in Scotland.

The making. The fruit shapes are needle-felted over small polystyrene cores by Fabode’s mother, giving each apple and pear a firm round body wrapped in soft wool. Two mini apples (4 cm), one larger apple (5 cm), two pears (6 cm), and eight small wool balls (2.5–3 cm) are strung along a length of natural cotton thread, with the pieces left free to slide so you can space them however the run requires.

How it looks and feels. The garland is approximately 130 cm long (not counting the hanging threads at either end). The reds, greens, and accents from the small wool balls give it a low, gentle pop of colour against a wall, mantel, or shelf edge. The wool surface is softly fuzzy under the fingers, and because the pieces aren’t fixed in place you can group them tightly at the middle or spread them evenly along the run.

Use it for:

• Draped along a mantelpiece, dresser, or open kitchen shelf
• Hung as a garland above a child’s cot, bed, or play corner
• Tied along a banister or kitchen-island edge for an autumn or harvest feel
• Year-round nursery decor that doesn’t need replacing seasonally

Dust with a soft, dry brush or cloth. Do not submerge in water.
