A handmade ceramic bowl with a sand-textured turquoise exterior and a melted cobalt seaglass interior base — coiled from white clay in our Scottish workshop.
The making: Built using the coiling technique — ropes of white rustic clay rolled by hand and stacked into a wide bowl. Real beach sand is pressed into the outer surface before the first firing, giving the exterior a gritty, beach-like texture. A turquoise glaze with brown speckles is brushed across the surface where it breaks darker over the sandy patches. Dark and light blue glass is then placed inside the bowl and fired again so the glass melts and fuses into a pool at the base. A protective layer of food-safe epoxy resin is added across the glass surface so it’s easy to wipe clean.
How it looks: A turquoise-blue bowl flecked with warm brown speckles — like sunlight on a shallow tropical sea seen through sand-shadow. The interior base is a small lake of glossy cobalt and pale blue glass that pools deeper toward the centre. The gritty outer surface contrasts the smooth glass within — sea meeting sand.
Use it for:
- A decorative centrepiece on a coastal-themed table or shelf
- Holding shells, sea-glass, or small stones gathered on walks
- As a key dish or trinket dish by the front door
- On a bathroom shelf with bath salts or pebbles
- Gifted to a sailor, swimmer or sea-glass collector
A considered gift for the friend who lives by the sea or wishes they did — birthdays, housewarmings, or simply because.
Care: Decorative only — not suitable for serving food. Wipe clean with a damp cloth; not dishwasher-safe.
Size:
- Diameter: 14 cm at the base, 16 cm at the top
- Handmade — each piece is unique; the seaglass pools differently every time
