A hand-built coiled stoneware vase in a soft translucent light blue, with a wide base, two small decorative handles, and an airy coastal palette. 18 cm tall, handmade in our Scottish studio.
The making: Hand-built from white stoneware clay using the coiling technique — a rolled-out clay base, then coil layered on coil to build the wide, slightly irregular form. Two small handles are added by hand. Once dried, the vase is bisque-fired and then glazed inside and out with a translucent light-blue glaze before its second firing at 950°C.
How it looks: An airy translucent light blue that catches the light like a calm bay morning — the glaze pools slightly darker where the coils sit deepest, picking out the hand-built rhythm of the wall. The two small handles are more of a visual cue than something to lift it by. Inside is fully glazed in the same blue, so it can hold water for fresh stems.
Use it for:
- A short, wide bouquet — dahlias, anemones, garden roses
- Dried grasses for a coastal-cottage shelf
- A standalone sculptural piece on a windowsill or console
- A housewarming gift for a friend moving by the sea
- A calm focal point in a bathroom or bedroom
A considered gift for a flower-arranger, a coastal-cottage dweller, or anyone marking a quiet new chapter — housewarmings, anniversaries, or simply because.
Care: Hand wash only. Wipe the outside with a damp cloth.
Size:
- 18 cm tall
- Fired at 950°C
- Handmade — small variations are part of the character
