The making: Hand-built in our garden shed in Scotland from grey clay with small black stones pressed into the body before firing. The dish is shaped by hand, three small hearts cut through the base for drainage, and finished in a glossy white glaze that pools over the stones rather than hiding them. Kiln-fired hard enough for daily bathroom use.
How it looks: Glossy chalk-white across the surface, with the small black stones showing as quiet dark flecks beneath the glaze — the longer you look, the more of them you find. The heart-shaped drain holes show the bare grey clay underneath at the rim of each cutout. Reads clean against a coloured tile, sharp against a wood counter.
Use it for:
