The making: Hand-built in our garden shed in Scotland from rustic terracotta clay. The dish is shaped by hand, three small hearts cut through the base for drainage, and the whole piece finished in a light blue reactive glaze that pulls darker over the carved edges as it fires. Kiln-fired hard enough for daily bathroom use.
How it looks: The light blue glaze sits cleaner across the smooth basin and breaks to a rich coffee brown along the rim and around the heart cutouts, where the glaze thins on the carved edges. The bare terracotta peeks through at the base. The hearts read as honest function, not kitsch — they’re there because the soap needs to drain.
Use it for:
