Blue & Brown Aged Coil Pot with Cork Lid

A handmade ceramic container with a cork lid, coiled from red clay and glazed in shifting blue, white and brown — made in our Scottish workshop.

The making: Built using the coiling technique — ropes of red clay rolled out by hand, stacked into a vessel shape, and smoothed together by thumb so the surface keeps a soft, slightly irregular finish rather than a perfectly turned wall. Once dry, it’s glazed and fired. Because the glaze reacts with the red clay underneath, the colours come out differently depending on how thickly each part is brushed — no two pots come out the same. A cork lid is fitted to the neck.

How it looks: An aged, slightly weathered look across the surface — streaks of cobalt blue and chalk white moving into warm rust brown where the red clay shows through. The body is round and soft-shouldered with a narrower neck holding a natural cork stopper. The neck is hand-formed and not perfectly circular, so the pot is not airtight — best for dry storage.
