A solid oak chopping board with a small metal handle and routed edges, made in Zoltan’s workshop in Whitburn, Scotland. Choose a small board, a large board, or the full set of three.
The making: Each board is cut from solid oak, then routed around the edges to soften the corners and given a steady metal handle for hanging or lifting. The wood is finished by hand with food-safe coconut oil, which brings out the grain and seals the surface for everyday kitchen use. Boards are 4 cm thick — heavy enough to sit stable on a worktop while you chop.
How it looks: Warm honeyed oak with the grain reading clearly through the oil finish. Routed edges give a soft rolled feel under the hand. The small metal handle is unobtrusive and lets the board hang from a kitchen hook between uses.
Use it for:
- Small board: prepping herbs, garlic, or a quick lunch of bread and cheese
- Large board: carving a Sunday roast or serving a sharing platter on the table
- Set of three: layered as a tableside presentation for a cheese-and-charcuterie night
- A handmade wedding or housewarming gift for a kitchen-focused couple
- Hung from a Shaker-peg rail when not in use, as a piece of the kitchen’s furniture
A considered gift for a serious home cook, a couple setting up a kitchen, or anyone replacing thin supermarket boards — weddings, housewarmings, or simply because.
Care: Hand wash and wipe dry after use. Re-oil occasionally with coconut oil or food-safe mineral oil to keep the wood sealed and the grain rich. Not suitable for the dishwasher.
Size:
- Small: 17.5 x 17.5 cm, 4 cm thick
- Large: 32 x 30 cm, 4 cm thick
- Set of 3: one small + two large
- Handmade — small variations in grain and tone are part of the character
