A handmade Advent tealight holder for four tealights, made from reclaimed 100-year-old rafter timber by our maker in Scotland.
The making: Cut from old rafter timber salvaged from a roof a century after it was first put up, then shaped into a long bar with four tealight wells in a row β one for each Sunday of Advent. The edges are routed around to expose the lighter inner wood, creating a visible contrast against the weathered outer face. Finished with clear wax to preserve the natural grain. Indoor use only.
How it looks: A 40 cm-long wooden bar with four tealight wells along its length. The routed edges run as a paler band around the darker, aged face of the timber, and the grain stays visible under the wax.
Use it for:
- An Advent ritual β one tealight lit each Sunday in the four weeks before Christmas
- The centre of a dinner table at a winter supper
- On a mantelpiece beside the tree for steady low light
- Halloween or autumn table without overtly themed decoration
- A thoughtful gift for someone who marks the run-up to Christmas slowly
A considered gift for the friend who keeps quiet seasonal rituals β Advent, Christmas, housewarmings, or simply because.
Care: Wipe with a dry or barely damp cloth; indoor use only because of the wax finish. Tealights not included.
Size:
- 40 cm long x 10 cm wide x 5 cm tall
- Holds 4 standard tealights (one for each week of Advent)
- Handmade from reclaimed 100-year-old rafter timber β grain and tone vary between pieces
