A small collection of handmade ceramic black-and-white insects with delicate metal antennas and legs, designed to perch in your plant pots like quiet little visitors. Choose a single design, or the full set of five. Made in our Scottish studio.
The making: Each insect body is hand-built from white clay, shaped and textured with small tools to suggest segmented wings, beetle backs and grasshopper limbs. After bisque-firing, every piece is painted with black underglaze and sealed with a glossy transparent glaze. Once fired again at 1240°C — hot enough to make them genuinely durable — fine metal wire is fitted as antennas and legs to bring each bug to life.
How it looks: Crisp black-and-white contrast with hand-painted detail on each insect’s back; the metal legs sit thinly against the white clay so they look drawn rather than attached. Each of the five designs has its own personality — think beetles, a grasshopper, and small bugs.
Use it for:
- Tucked into a houseplant pot as a small companion
- On a bathroom shelf or kitchen windowsill
- A quietly weird gift for a plant-collector friend
- Styled across a stack of books on a bedside table
- A small ceramic curiosity for a desk or studio
A considered gift for plant-keepers, natural-history lovers and anyone who likes a slightly strange ceramic companion — birthdays, housewarmings, or simply because. Ceramic with metal legs — handle gently, not a toy.
Care: Wipe with a dry cloth. Do not submerge.
Size:
- Small insect scale (varies by design A–E)
- Dimensions available on request
- Handmade — small variations are part of the character
