Mary the Dream Fairy

A wool felted hanging fairy in light blue and turquoise, made by hand by Fabode’s mother in Scotland.

The making. Each fairy is needle-felted from natural wool by Fabode’s mother. A pipe-cleaner skeleton runs through the body so the arms and stance can be gently posed. Light blue and turquoise wool forms Mary’s body and wings, and a small narcissus-coloured flower is felted into her ginger hair. A long, fine golden string is attached at the top of her head so she can be hung at the height you choose.

How it looks and feels. Mary stands approximately 20 cm tall, slightly taller than her sister fairies. The wool sits in layered light blue and turquoise across her body and wings; the ginger of her hair is the warmest tone in the figure, and the small flower in soft yellow gives her a centre of focus. The fibres have the gently fuzzy surface of needle-felted wool, and the pipe-cleaner inside lets her position be adjusted when handled.

Use it for:

• Hung on a Christmas tree branch alongside other handmade ornaments
