A pair of small handmade ceramic salt and pepper shakers in white over grey clay, fitted with cork stoppers, made in our Scottish workshop.
The making: Each shaker is pinch-built from grey stoneware clay — shaped between thumb and fingers rather than thrown on a wheel — so the form is small, soft and slightly irregular. Three small holes are made in the top before firing. A white glaze is applied and fired again. Natural cork stoppers are cut to fit; one is left longer than the other so you can tell salt from pepper at a glance.
How it looks: Small, round pinch-pots in a chalky white glaze with the grey clay showing through where the glaze thins at the edges. Two cork tops in warm honey colour — one taller, one shorter — the only thing telling salt from pepper apart.
Use it for:
- On a kitchen table for everyday meals
- On a tray with oil and vinegar for a small condiment set
- As a thoughtful set on a hosted dinner table
- Taking on a picnic — they’re small enough to tuck into a basket
- Gifted to someone setting up their first kitchen or hosting their first dinner party
A considered gift for a new home, a wedding present, or a small thoughtful addition for someone who cooks — housewarmings, weddings, or simply because.
Care: Hand wash; remove cork before washing and air-dry both parts.
Size:
- Approximately 4.5–5 cm tall (each)
- Set of 2 with two cork stoppers
- Handmade — small variations are part of the character
