A handmade bathroom set in terracotta clay finished in a clean white glaze — a pierced soap dish with heart-shaped drainage holes and a matching toothbrush holder with heart cutouts around the rim.
The making: Built in our garden shed in Scotland from terracotta clay. The soap dish is shaped by hand and the base pierced with heart-shaped drain holes. The toothbrush holder is shaped by hand to match, with small heart cutouts along the rim and a solid base to keep the counter dry. Both pieces are dipped in a white glaze that leaves the rim and edges showing the warm terracotta beneath. The base of the holder carries the maker’s mark.
How it looks: A clean white glaze across the surfaces with warm terracotta breaking through at the edges and rims of both pieces. The hearts read as quiet honest function rather than decoration — they’re there because the soap needs to drain and the toothbrushes need air around them. Both pieces sit warm next to a wood counter, sharp next to white tile.
Use it for:
- A bathroom basin pairing for a bar of artisan soap and a handful of toothbrushes
- A guest bathroom refresh or holiday-let kit
- A second-bathroom set that looks made rather than bought
- A housewarming or wedding gift for a friend setting up a flat
- A self-treat to replace the supermarket plastic set
A considered gift for the friend redoing a bathroom — housewarmings, weddings, or simply because.
Care: Hand wash both pieces with mild soap and warm water; avoid abrasive scourers.
