A small handmade ceramic plate in rustic terracotta, hand-scratched with a light-blue daisy and finished with a graphite-grey rim — made in our Scottish studio.
The making: The plate is hand-shaped from rustic terracotta clay and brushed with a layer of white slip across the inside. While the slip is still leather-hard, a single daisy is scratched through by hand using the sgraffito technique, revealing the warm terracotta clay underneath. The scratched lines are filled with soft underglaze: light blue petals, a chartreuse centre, and a deep forest-green stem and leaves. After bisque firing, a transparent glaze is brushed across the interior and a graphite-coloured glaze applied to the rim, then the plate is fired a second time. The base is stamped with our maker’s mark and fully glazed.
How it looks: A chalky ivory interior with a single hand-scratched daisy — light blue petals around a small chartreuse centre, balanced by a forest-green stem and leaves below. A deep graphite-grey band frames the rim. The fully glazed bottom gives it weight in the hand.
