A small handmade ceramic salt shaker with a turquoise breaking glaze over a stoney brown coiled body, finished with a natural cork plug — made in our Scottish workshop.
The making: Built using the coiling technique — mini ropes of brown clay rolled by hand and stacked tightly into a small bottle shape so the coil ridges stay visible. Small holes are pierced in the top for seasoning to flow through. A turquoise glaze is brushed across the surface; where it meets the textured coils it breaks clear, revealing the warm stoney brown of the clay beneath. A natural cork plug is cut to fit the base for easy refilling.
How it looks: A bright sea-turquoise glaze pooling thicker in the smooth areas and pulling back from the raised coil ridges, so the texture reads like a wave pattern on stone. The brown clay shows through wherever the glaze breaks, giving each shaker the look of something fished out of a tide pool. Honey-coloured cork at the base.
Use it for:
- On a kitchen table for everyday salt
- On a tray with oil and vinegar for a small condiment set
- Taken on a picnic — small enough to tuck into a basket
- Paired with a matching pepper shaker as a hosting set
- Gifted to someone hosting their first dinner party
A considered small gift for a friend who cooks, hosts, or just appreciates a beautiful table — housewarmings, weddings, or simply because.
Care: Hand wash; remove cork before washing and air-dry both parts.
Size:
- Height: 7 cm (without the cork)
- Price is for one salt shaker
- Handmade — small variations are part of the character
