A tall hand-coiled ceramic vase in a speckled turquoise-blue glaze that breaks over the textured coils, made by hand in our Scottish studio. 22.5 cm tall.
The making: Built up by hand using the coiling technique — thin ropes of white clay laid one on top of another and worked together to form a large irregular cylinder base with a smaller, rounder neck. The coil lines are deliberately left visible across the surface as texture. After the first firing, a speckled turquoise-blue glaze is brushed on; it breaks to a paler, almost clear tone over the high points of the coils. Fully glazed inside as well, so it holds water for fresh flowers.
How it looks: A 22.5 cm tall vase, 13 cm wide at the base, narrowing into a small round neck. The turquoise glaze runs deep in the dips between coils and thins to a milky speckled white over the ridges — the texture moves the colour as you turn the piece. Reads as something between a coastal vessel and a Japanese wabi-sabi pot.
Use it for:
- Holding a small bouquet of fresh flowers — ranunculus, tulips, sweet pea
- Dried hydrangea or pampas grass as a year-round arrangement
- Sitting on a sideboard or hallway console as a sculptural piece, empty
- A statement centrepiece on a low coffee table
- A wedding or significant-birthday gift to mark the occasion
A considered gift for a flower-lover, a couple settling into a first home together, or someone who collects small ceramic vessels — housewarmings, weddings, milestone birthdays or simply because.
Care: Hand wash gently. Avoid harsh chemicals and abrasives. Empty water and dry occasionally to keep the inside fresh.
Size:
- Height: approximately 22.5 cm. Width at widest point: approximately 13 cm.
- Handmade — small variations are part of the character
