A handmade ceramic soap dish in brown clay with a greenish-blue reactive glaze that thins to warm brown at the edges, made in our Scottish studio.
The making: Hand-shaped from brown clay, with raised feet pressed in by hand to lift the soap above water, and small drainage holes pierced through the base before the first firing. A greenish-blue glaze is brushed over the top and inside; as it runs thinner toward the rim and feet, the warm brown clay shows through. Fired twice for stoneware-grade strength.
How it looks: Soft sea-green and blue across the centre of the dish, settling deeper in the bowl where the glaze pools, breaking to chocolate-brown at the rim and around the feet where the glaze thins. Glossy finish with subtle variation ā each dish reads slightly differently. Sits low and shallow on the sink edge.
Use it for:
- Holding a bar of soap by the bathroom or kitchen sink ā drainage holes keep it dry
- Catching rings and earrings on a bedside table or windowsill
- A small fruit dish for blueberries, cherry tomatoes or olives
- Used as a planter saucer for a small pot
- A housewarming gift for someone refurbishing a bathroom
A considered gift for a new homeowner, a wedding gift, or someone who appreciates handmade things that work ā housewarmings, weddings, or simply because.
Care: Rinse with water or wipe with mild soap. Avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaning tools.
Size:
- Dimensions available on request
- Handmade ā small variations are part of the character
