A handmade oversized 1-litre ceramic mug in a copper, dark-blue and turquoise glaze, personalised with a hand-applied initial letter — made in our Scottish studio.
The making: Hand-built from grey clay using the slab technique rather than thrown on a wheel — the seams give the mug its straight-sided, slightly architectural shape. Small black stones in the clay are left visible at the rim and base. A chosen initial letter is applied in white before glazing. The exterior is dipped in two glazes — one half copper and dark blue, the other half soft light blue — with a lighter blue inside. Fired at 1240°C for full vitrification.
How it looks: A genuinely large mug — 1 litre is two normal coffees — with the metallic copper glaze pooling against the deep navy on one side, and a quieter pale-blue on the other. The interior is light blue so a tea looks bright against the wall. The white initial sits clearly on the dark side. Stoneware feel: weighty, with the grit of the black-speckled clay visible.
Use it for:
- Morning coffee or a builder’s tea that lasts an hour
- French onion or tomato soup served at the table
- A working-from-home mug that doesn’t need a refill every twenty minutes
- A planter for a small herb or succulent if it leaves the desk
- Personalised gift for a coffee-obsessed friend, parent or colleague
A considered gift for a partner who lives on coffee, a soup-loving parent, or a remote-working sibling — birthdays, housewarmings, Father’s Day or simply because.
Care: Hand wash recommended — avoid soaking or dishwasher to preserve the glaze.
Size:
- 1 litre capacity. Available in 800ml as a variation. Personalised with a chosen letter.
- Handmade — small variations are part of the character
