A wall-hung organiser built from a single panel of an old salvaged door, sanded to its natural wood grain and fitted with a black magnetic metal sheet for notes, photos and the bits of paper that otherwise live on the fridge.
The making: Repurposed in Scotland from one of four panels lifted from an authentic vintage door. The panel is sanded to reveal the original grain, sealed with antique pine wax for water resistance, then fitted with a black magnetic metal sheet (a real magnet board, not a chalkboard) and backed with decorative wallpaper at the edges. Each piece is one-of-a-kind because the wood decides.
How it looks: A frame of warm honey-pine timber, the antique wax pulling a soft amber sheen out of the grain, around a flat matte-black magnetic surface in the centre. The panel mouldings stay legible at the edges. Reads like a thoughtful kitchen tool rather than a corporate noticeboard.
Use it for:
- A kitchen wall for recipes, shopping lists and a child’s drawing under a magnet
- A home office for notes, postcards and inspiration scraps
- A craft room for swatches, palette cards and reference photos
- A gift for someone setting up a studio or a new kitchen
- A mudroom or entryway as both magnet board and visual anchor
A considered gift for the friend who keeps the family calendar going — housewarmings, birthdays, or simply because.
Care: Dust with a soft cloth; the antique wax frame is water-resistant but avoid heavy moisture. Wipe the magnetic sheet with a slightly damp cloth as needed.
Size:
- 40 cm wide x 81.5 cm tall x 4.5 cm thick
- Black magnetic metal sheet (not chalkboard)
- Antique pine wax finish
- Ready to hang
- Salvaged piece — small variations are part of the character
