Heart-Pierced Turquoise Bathroom Set

A handmade terracotta soap dish and toothbrush holder, pierced with hearts and glazed in turquoise, made in our workshop in Scotland.

The making. Each piece is hand-built from terracotta clay. The soap dish has its base pierced with small heart-shaped openings for water drainage so the soap stays dry between uses. The toothbrush holder mirrors the motif — hearts pierced along the upper rim — but keeps a solid base to keep the counter dry. Both pieces are then glazed in a turquoise that deepens into a richer blue where it sits over the darker terracotta. The set is kiln-fired and stamped with the maker’s logo on the underside.

How it looks and feels. The turquoise glaze shifts between a clear bright tone on the higher faces and a deeper blue where it has pooled over the clay body — uneven the way handmade glaze should be. The pierced hearts read as a soft, decorative rhythm on the rim and base rather than a graphic; the warm terracotta shows through inside each opening. The surface is glossy under the glaze and rougher where the unglazed terracotta is left bare.
