A set of three handmade ceramic Christmas tree ornaments — a Santa, a snowman and a small cottage — hand-shaped in terracotta clay with a soft green slip and folk-art scratched detail. Made by hand in our Scottish studio.
The making: Each ornament is shaped by hand from terracotta clay and coated with a soft light-green slip while still leather-hard. The festive figures are then scratched through by hand using the sgraffito technique — revealing the warm terracotta clay underneath. After bisque firing, a transparent glaze is brushed on and the pieces are kiln-fired a second time. Each ornament is strung with rustic brown hemp twine for hanging.
How it looks: A chalky sage-green base with warm chocolate-brown terracotta lines scratched through to draw Santa, the snowman and the cottage. The glaze gives a soft sheen rather than a high gloss; the hemp string adds a rustic finishing note.
