The aesthetic

Cottagecore is less about flowers and gingham and more about a way of living with your home. Linen on a Sunday breakfast table. A garland looped along a stone mantelpiece. A small terracotta plate holding rings beside the bed. The pieces below are made by hand in our garden shed in Scotland — terracotta clay, wool felted by needle, kiln-fired one at a time. None of them are remade identically. That’s the point.

On a Sunday breakfast table
The sunflower plate is the size of a saucer — small enough to hold biscuits, jam, or a single croissant without crowding it. The graphite rim frames whatever you put on it. We made the design after a hand-scratched folk-art pattern Marta drew on the kitchen wall when she was twelve. One-of-a-kind — there’s only ever one of each.
Beside the bed, by the light
Small handmade pieces work hardest in the places you reach for first thing in the morning. A trinket dish for rings, a wool felted ornament hung from a lamp pull, a single ceramic vase with a stem of something dried. Nothing here is precious. Use it.
Along a mantelpiece, in a window
Garlands belong where you walk past them every day — a mantel, a banister, the top of a kitchen cupboard. The wool felted vine has small flowers in red, pink, blue and yellow on a soft green stem 165 cm long. The ceramic autumn leaves garland is shorter, with pressed leaves in green, yellow and brown. Both will last for years if you keep them away from steam.
