A large handbuilt ceramic bowl in rustic terracotta stoneware — reactive blue glazed inside, hand-painted with green and blue botanicals outside, and finished with a graphite-black heart-textured rim. Made by hand in our Scottish studio. A sister to our other botanical bowl, with its own small variations in painting and reactive glaze.
The making: Each bowl is hand-built from rustic terracotta stoneware clay using the slabbing technique — clay rolled flat, cut and joined by hand into a generous shallow bowl. The inside is glazed with a reactive light-blue glaze that breaks to deeper brown at the rim where it pools and reacts with the iron in the clay. The outside is coated with an ivory slip as a canvas, then hand-painted with botanical motifs in soft greens and blues. The rim is impressed with a row of small heart outlines and finished in a graphite-black glaze. Two firings; all glazes are food-safe.
How it looks: A milky swimming-pool blue inside that dips to caramel and chocolate brown where the reactive glaze meets the rim. The outside reads almost like a painted slipware bowl — chalky ivory with soft sage-green leaves and forget-me-not blue flowers drawn freehand. A row of tiny heart outlines runs around the rim under the deep graphite-black band.
