A handmade two-piece bathroom set — a draining soap dish and a matching toothbrush holder — coiled from grey clay and glazed white, made in our Scottish workshop.
The making: Both pieces are built using the coiling technique. Thin ropes of grey clay are stacked into shape by hand: the soap dish low and oval, the toothbrush holder taller and upright. The interior walls are smoothed flat so they’re easy to clean, while the outside keeps the visible coil ridges as part of the surface. The soap dish is pierced through the base so water drains away, keeping the bar dry between uses. The toothbrush holder has a solid base so brushes stay supported. Both pieces are glazed in white and fired together.
How it looks: A matched pair in soft white, with the coil texture sitting under the glaze on the outer walls so you can read the build by hand. Smooth on the inside, ridged on the outside. The set reads as quietly contemporary rather than rustic-busy.
Use it for:
- A coordinated upgrade for a guest bathroom
- An en-suite refresh away from plastic tumblers and trays
- The toothbrush holder used on a dressing table for make-up brushes
- The soap dish used in the kitchen for handwash by the sink
- Gifted as a Mother’s Day or housewarming pair
A considered gift for someone who’s redoing their bathroom slowly and properly — Mother’s Day, weddings, housewarmings, or simply because.
Care: Hand wash both pieces; rinse the soap dish base from time to time.
